There seems to be an upcoming solo album, Cavedweller, with a Wellwater Conspiracy vibe.

Why give his songs to Ed to ruin?

Maybe the most original songwriter in the band. Matt's tastes are super cool, edgy, and really modern. I loved Wellwater Conspiracy. I'm super bummed people arund here didn't properly appreciate songs like Get Right, Evacuation, and The Fixer. I also think Lightning Bolt was missing the Matt flavor we got a little bit of in Backspacer and Riot Act. So, I'm def gonna check this out.
Also, I'm really glad Matt's doing this right at this moment. I was worried the Soundgarden guys were gonna pack it up and never be heard from again, and that's including Matt. I'd have to think those 3 guys were all disillusioned and had every reason to completely disappear forever after what happened just a few months ago. So, I hope it's some kind of healing process.

I'm in. At this stage the band members don't really feel like they have much to offer to the band though.

Man, I can't tell you how thrilled I am about this record.

All of these guys (OK, maybe not Mike) make better, more interesting music outside of the band than they do in.
