Eddie sounds great on that Alive clip. If I go to the unplugged this is not usually one of the songs I seek out. I should change that

I'll go with the one I'd much rather put on right now: Frances.

I am shocked by this rare show of good taste by RM (though Frances Farmer is excellent). But it's early yet

Alive is a helluva lot better than FF, which is still a great song.

I don't disagree with you. This is one of the rare instances where my own personal experience with a song, my own history and such -- you know, the stuff Anders is always talking about -- is more important to me than actual composition, songwriting, and performance.
I think these are both incredible top tier songs by these respective bands. I totally understand any argument for Alive being better. But there's too much of me wrapped up in FF to set aside.
I won't be upset when Alive takes this. There are much worse songs to lose out to. But goddaman that Frances Farmer and her wicked charms.

I was never a big Nirvana fan growing up, but have come to appreciate their music over the years. As such Frances Farmer will always be more fresh than Alive. But I do think that Alive is the superior song, so it gets my vote.

FF was, for a long time, my favorite song on In Utero. It's great. I expected it to run away with this and while I would have been angry because Alive lost, I would have happily supported FF in future matches

I think Cobain is hit or miss as a lyricist, but this is one of his best.

"I miss the comfort in being sad" is such a powerful sentiment. It was when I was 13, everything. As a 37 year old who has terrible mood swings, who battles with his own worth, it's just as meaningful, even if the meaning has shifted some.

'She'll come back as fire and burn all the liars/leave a blanket of ash on the ground' is such a great angsty sentiment in all the best ways

Oh totally. I fucking love that line and I love the delivery, too.
