TV: The Good Place

Post by washing machine »

This took a little while to grow on me, but the lead-up to the first season finale and the raised stakes in season 2 have me hooked. Kristen Bell is lovable as hell and Ted Danson is perfect in this. The supporting cast really came into their own throughout the first season. Sometimes the moral philosophy themes can get a little heavy handed, but most of the time it's hilarious to watch Chidi struggle with Eleanor and the rest of the gang. Good show.

I'm only on the second episode of the second season. We got accidentally drunk with the neighbors the other night and couldn't make it far with the newer episodes but I remember laughing many times at Jason's soul mate troubles.

The judge’s photo montage at the end of this week’s episode really had me laughing. Jason and Chidi’s tests were perfect too.

I think it's one of the brightest and best shows on TV right now.

We started this too. It’s pretty good. And like it was said, Kristen Bell.

The Penis flatener, butthole spiders, dingus and “do you have a second to eat my farts?”

I laughed probably way too hard at those.

The first time Michael ever described what "retirement" was like was laugh out loud funny to me.

This series is very frustrating for me at this point. It's funny scene-to-scene, plenty of great characters and performances (although some are getting a bit tiring), yada yada yada. But so many of the episodes' arcs (and the seasons' arcs) are now, "We have this great idea, it's going to fix our problem...oh no! The Demons threw a wrench in our plans." I'm sure we'll still watch as it goes forward, but it's no longer must-see viewing for me.

It is relying way too much on trying new things/scenarios. It is exciting at times, but it is hard to track exactly what is happening on a week to week basis. I still really like the show, but I want it slow down a bit.
Spoiler: show
Seems like season 4 might based on the finale last week.

Perhaps.
Spoiler: show
But I fear it'll be a lot like Season 2, when the humans were in on the game and pretending to be part of the neighborhood to try and help save Michael's skin--except this time, it'll be their own. I do agree with you, though, that a good 4-5 episode arc where they have the same goal in mind (as opposed to literally jumping through portals each week to something completely new) is probably the best bet for something engaging.

I still think this is an exceptional show that I can't wait to watch each week. It's flawed for sure but it's still such a joy for me.

I don’t disagree with any of this.
