Artists that completely changed their sound
I am looking for examples of artists/bands who developed into something completely unrecognizable to the sound they started out with
Two really good examples of this are Fleetwood Mac (started as a blues group, developed into the band that made Rumours) and Goo Goo Dolls (started as a Husker-Du influenced punk band, developed into power-balladeers). Beastie Boys too.

Fleetwood Mac is a great example.
The Eagles went from soft, California country to a more rock sound when Joe Walsh joined.

I don't think The Eagles, Silverchair, or Green Day are drastic enough of a change to qualify here.

The Green Day one is kind of a tame example (they went from pop-punk to poppier pop-punk). I'm looking for something a bit more drastic. No clue about SilverchairE.H. Ruddock wrote:Silverchair and Green Day are two that come to mind

Not sure if Fleetwood Mac counts. Buckingham, Nicks, and Christine McVie were the chief songwriters once they joined. The earlier group was led by Peter Green.

Genesis changed a lot from 1967 to the 90s.

Silverchair went from that heavy pre teen angst of Israel's Son, etc to straight up pop with stuff like straight linescutuphalfdead wrote:I don't think The Eagles, Silverchair, or Green Day are drastic enough of a change to qualify here.

Alright I'll come clean, I have no idea what I'm talking about when it comes to Silverchair.E.H. What about Pink Floyd? Their early stuff with Syd was quite different from say, The Wall.

Re: Artists that completely changed their sound
Of course they count. Practially two different bands. And there was also a long period in between Green leaving and Buckingham/Nicks joining. They even had a few moderate hits in that period.rick malone wrote:Not sure if Fleetwood Mac counts. Buckingham, Nicks, and Christine McVie were the chief songwriters once they joined.
