Letting your friends win

Would you do this sometimes? If so, why? I was never the best gamer, so it was always a huge thrill when I beat my friend in a sports game or in Street Fighter. However, if we kept playing, I’d always end up throwing the game and letting the balance restore itself. I don’t know if it was just that I didn’t know how to celebrate the victory, or maybe the pressure to keep it up was too heavy, or something else.

On the same note, if there was a rare moment when I was clearly the better player (against my younger brother, for instance) I’d just let them win pretty often. No idea why. A lot to psychologically unpack here, I’m sure.

I go easy on my friends in Mario Kart because they wouldn't want to keep playing if I got first every time.
