Double fuck. Two incredible songs.

It has to be Bad.

Bad would be a worthy champion.

Both songs are very simple musically -- they're both built on drone and repetition, with "Bad" alternating between two chords for most of its duration, and "With or Without You" featuring a bog-standard I-V-vi-IV progression. But "Bad" has a lot more going on rhythmically, melodically, and its band arrangement. It's much more of a dynamic song, performance-wise, than "With or Without You"; both Larry Mullen and Adam Clayton do a lot to fill out the space, and the whole thing builds towards an emotional climax that's much more compelling than "With or Without You"'s gritted-teeth "WHOAAA-ohh-ohh-ohh"s.

If I, could through myself
Set this poll on fire
I’d blow it all to hell
Watch it burn, burn away
Into the light.

Both of these songs appear in most U2 fans’ top ten lists. To have one eliminated in the first round is a Hindenburg-level tragedy.
