New disease. Not a fan of this particular Deftones song.

The Deftones song is far better, but I do like the name 'Spineshank'. It sounds like a Diablo 2 'Super Unique' monster. Other examples of 'Super Unique' monsters, from Act 1 alone, include:

Corpsefire
Bishibosh
Blood Raven
Bonebreak
Coldcrow
Rakanishu
Treehead Woodfist
Pitspawn Fouldog
Bone Ash

Diablo 2 was nu as fuck.

Never heard either of these before. Quite like that chorus section of New Disease though. Pretty good tune.

Spineshank is like a good version of Linkin Park, that song was in the game Shaun Palmer’s Pro Snowboarding, that takes me back to the early 2000’s.

Back to School is probably bottom 5 Deftones of all time.

I will vote against Deftones for probably the only time here.

Back to School: I don't think I've heard this before. I didn't know he rock rapped. Sounds terrible... in a crazy, growing on me kind of way. I feel bad now... 2:08.

New Disease: I hate the singing so much. 0:31.

Back to School.

I think Back To School, while one of the weaker Deftones songs I've ever heard, is a good showcase for his vocal stylings. Also for dancing on desks in a classroom.

Interesting story about the genesis of "Back to School", from a different thread in the tournament:
Vocalist Chino Moreno: "This album right here [the White Pony re-release] is not the album that we turned in to the label. As far as we're concerned, the first edition was the record. Done. Then, they talked us into re-releasing it with another song on it, and it's not like I'm against the song or whatever, but I liked the sequence we had when we first turned it in. When this version came out, a little part inside all of us felt like: 'Fuck! We just totally compromised.' And I know that a lot of our fans felt bad about it too."[5]

The band also specifically regretted the presence of "Back to School" on the re-release of the album, as Moreno stated in an interview with German rock magazine Visions: "'Back to School' was a mistake. A calculated song, that had been built up with only one aim in mind: It should be a single. ... 'Back to School' was released because I was an idiot. I wanted to prove something [to the record company]. (...) After White Pony was released, they wanted us to do a new version of "Pink Maggit". They said we lost our heaviness, and there were no more singles on the album. First, I wanted to stick this idea up my ass, but then I thought: 'I'm gonna show those fuckers how easy it is to create a hit-single.' And so I rapped a hip hop part on that song, we shortened it and half an hour later, the hit-single was ready to roll on."[6]

Yeah, Back to School sounds tacked on and really out of place on the White Pony version with it.

The good parts of BTS are all pulled from Pink Maggit, which is an awesome song. Except instead of atmospheric, romantic guitars and vocals...they added terrible rap about high school.

The line "I be the man watch your backpack, pen and pencils" from Back to School is straight up jacked from "I Don't Play" from Kool Keith on the Black Elvis: Lost in Space record.

Even for being a cop-out Back to School is still pretty good in a cringey kind of way. I mean it's not like they cut the vastly superior Pink Maggit and used BTS instead. That would have been a travesty.

I don't like either of these. I''m voting for Deftones because Spineshank didn't have the vision to name their song "Nu Disease."
