They're going to finish the series. It was cancelled before they were able to end it properly. There were at least three major arcs (one for Ahsoka, one for Maul) that were never finished. The "Sixth Season" that we got from Netflix was incomplete, and only a fraction of what was intended. It was basically the handful of episodes that were completed when they pulled the plug.
Now we're going to get the actual completion of the series. They aren't starting over or rebooting. They are ending it the right way.
