Usually it would be a special election and that person served until the next general election. Now, with the general election being less than 90 days, they may just wait for that one.

Yeah, I posted that in the Trump thread because this one should be about an actual hero, not the prattling of a baby.

Among the more overrated Americans ever. War-monger, complete economic illiterate, dubious personal ethics, but served honorably and endured more than 99.9% of humans would be able to in combat. It's impossible not to respect his bravery and heroism in theater.

His military service deserves gratitude and recognition, but little else.

Even his military service is suspect. He crashed multiple planes in training and almost got kicked out for partying (he only didn't because his parents stepped in)

Which to you is likely a better reflection of the man's military character: a few indiscretions over the course of pre-combat training - at an age when everyone is indiscreet - or enduring five years of torture in a POW camp and refusing early refusal so others could leave in his place?

If you want to ding him for technical deficiencies and being into drinking and chasing tail at 20 (what were you into at that age?), fine. But it hardly seems sufficient to categorize the whole of his service as dishonorable.
