It's still so odd to me that Longview was the lead single. Jorge introduced me to that fact, but my experience has always been Basket Case was the explosive first single, and Longview was the followup that failed to catch on; I guess this was just my experience as an 8th grade kid listening to Boston radio stations.
If I were still a youngster, I'd say Come Out and Play was the clear winner, because it had much more of a cultural impact in my world. But Longview is a far better song, and something I'd still actually enjoy listening to today, so it gets my vote. Fuck Dexter Holland, of all the musicians who deserve to be rich, he's towards the bottom of the list.

Big deal, he's probably responsible for like 9% of positive results.

This is indeed notable but not enough to beat Longview.

Fun-ish fact about "Come Out and Play": Legendary SoCal punk band Agent Orange claimed the Middle-Eastern-sounding riff in the song was a ripoff of a brief guitar solo that appears in their own song "Bloodstains". Agent Orange sued The Offspring, but the lawsuit was dismissed. In response -- either as a "fuck you" to the band or some conciliatory gesture -- The Offspring covered "Bloodstains" for the Ready to Rumble soundtrack.
Fun-ish fact about "Longview": The iconic bass line was written by bassist Mike Dirnt while tripping on acid. He described it feeling like the best thing he'd ever done, but he forgot to record it. Once sober, he couldn't actually remember what he had played, so the final version is just an approximation of that half-remembered bassline. Kind of like a real-life version of the Tenacious D song "Tribute".

that sounds like a frivolous lawsuit.

It's idiotic. Agent Orange did not invent that scale. The incident inspired the Vandals song "Aging Orange", a pretty funny diss song.

Absolutely. That song kicks a bunch of ass (and was in a Tony Hawk game as well)
As for this round, two titans, going with Come Out and Play for now.

Longview was definitely the Green Day song that sold me on listening to more of them when I was 11 or 12.
Then a couple years later American Idiot came out and I think it was about 3 weeks after that where I turned my back and stopped caring.
