He's tremendous, he's cool, he's got no chin... but nevertheless, he now has his own thread.

don't get me wrong, Clapton does blues the way they should be, but B.B. King doesn't get hyped as more than a "blues man" for a reason.

In Chuck Klosterman's words, "a talented, boring guitar player and a boring, workmanlike vocalist."

I would add relatively average songwriter to the mix but CK more or less sums it up for me, despite my soft spots for odd bits of his catalog.

He's below average in every way.

Accurate. I've never heard anything of his that I'm excited or moved by, save for Disraeli Gears.

i don't even care about him as a singer (although i like a few of his songs), i just think he's a great blues guitarist.

Cream was good.

I really like this one:

i pretty much love everything he does, but blues licks give me a boner and he's the king of em. i kinda like his voice too, the way he sings 'alberta' on unplugged is awesome. i get why people find him repetitive, but when he's repeating what i love, i'm in.

he's pretty hit or miss as a song writer, but 'layla' is probably one of the greatest songs ever. his voice during the chorus is absolutely amazing, u can hear how much pain he's in over loving this woman.

my limited knowledge of his work makes me appreciate stuff he did while in Cream, Derek and the Dominoes and his unplugged album (Tears in Heaven is a very moving song and i prefer the unplugged version to the studio one), his appearance on While my Guitar Gently Weeps and Harrison's Cloud Nine (i've never heard the Live in Japan album) and Roger Waters' Pros and Cons are all pretty decent if not excellent. his reggae period and most of his MOR output are boring as hell though. one still got to salute a guy who made it this far without a chin

saw him in 2001 i think? nice show, maybe a little bit boring, but great guitar player...and Over the rainbow was beautiful.

The Derek and the Dominoes album is great.

Allman wrote the guitar hook and I always thought somebody else sang the lead on it. Wikipedia says he sang on it. Is there another big Clapton related tune that's sang by one of his bandmates?

A legend no doubt, but he's definitely not the greatest writer. A big knock for me when discussing the greatest guitar players.

I saw him that tour too. I enjoyed it but yeah, he is a bit boring.

Thank God his first name is in the title of the thread lest we confuse him with all those other Claptons.

His self titled album, 461 Ocean Boulevard and Slowhand albums are all very good.

I think many of you are missing something here.

I'm a big fan of his work with Cream, but he shines on the Mayall Blues Breakers record. As soon as he picked up a Strat, I mostly lost interest.
