Im not familiar with the source material, but they did a great job at casting.

yeah that's what I thought, I do think it's comic canon but I don't read them so

Your comment intrigued me because I'd never heard that so I looked it up; the character didn't start as deaf, but he did go deaf at one point in the 80s and has been deaf since

yeah that's what I thought, I do think it's comic canon but I don't read them so

He lost his hearing in a storyline back in the 80s, but got some kickass, souped up hearing aids and it's not ready been mentioned since, AFAIK.
