Cathartic Moments In Songs
There are several songs that have moments that just "get" me. Be it a lyric, bridge, etc. No matter how many times I hear them, there's an emotional sense of enlightenment or catharsis, like the clouds clearing and everything being put in a positive perspective.
Here are some examples (in some you have to listen to more of the song for context or lead in's):
Doves - Pounding (3:24 - 3:40 mark)
Wilco - Muzzle of Bees (3:57 mark on)
War on Drugs - In Reverse (5:12 - 5:34 acoustic guitar out of nowhere)
The National - Guest Room (2:00 - 2:13 mark "Just tie a woman to your wrist . . .")
and last but not least . . .
Sigur Ros - Festival (7:32 mark on)
what are yours?

Re: Cathartic Moments In Songs
I've posted about it before (I think I created a thread about your favorite moments/song performances from any concert you've been to), but the sing-along parts (the ooo-oooo-ooooooos) in Arcade Fire's "Wake Up" are fine on the album, but in a live setting they just floored me.
Sound quality here is not the best (this is the only time I saw them, like 9 years ago), but if you start it from the beginning, it kicks in at about 20 seconds. Then it happens again at like 1:35. My favorite one is at about 2:50, after the "I guess we'll just have to adjust" line.

When Chris Cornell brings it home at the end of Four-Walled World, starting at around 5:10 until the end.

This is a good one. For me, the opening music to svefn-g-englar before he starts singing is my moment from their catalog. But that is just one of many from them, I'm sure.Chris_H_2 wrote: Sigur Ros - Festival (7:32 mark on)

The first one that came to mind for me was Festival. Gives me goosebumps every time I hear it take off at the end.

The end of "We" by brad, from their first album. Jesus, the way the guitars build and then Stone lets loose. I just wish it was longer, it just crashes to an end like a wave.

The white noise moment that Kim builds up to after the spoken word part of Washing Machine is it for me. Starting at about 4:04 and blooming until the end. Time stands still. Gets me every time.

The guitar solo outro of Kanye’s “New Slaves”. Not only is it beautiful and emotional, but it is the first instance of the snare drum sound on the whole album (and it’s track 4!). Hugely cathartic.

Good morning, captain - slint. The ending, naturally
The live version of what happens when the heart just stops- the frames. Those notes and the conviction at the end. He lived that.
When I go deaf - low. THAT guitar entrance
Release me on the floor - figurines that cascading guitar all over the end of the song slays me

Radiohead - Let Down (3:30 to the end)
The whole song grabs me. It’s like a journey, it keeps opening up, and then really hits with a fantastic finish.

Re: Cathartic Moments In Songs
Times of Trouble used to be a cathartic song for me but it's hard to listen to now.
