All things considered, this is Ed’s best song on the uke. He should’ve just left it there after this. It’s a little wonder, lyrically and musically.

I used to think it was a piece of throwaway nonsense and put it in the same bracket as Bugs. Funny how opinions change over time.

Same here. It works in the context of the album.

If there’s anything bad I can say about it, it’s that it opened the door for the Uke Songs album. Still not a fan of that one.

Soon Forget is nice but as other users have previously suggested, I’d rather it come after Writer’s Block. SF interrupts one of the best run of songs on any PJ album (Insignificance - Parting Ways) and the listener should be rewarded for sitting through the silent gap and typewriting, although that may defeat the purpose of WB.

This is an interesting take and I think I agree. Insignificance into Parting Ways would be a good transition

Is this thread about Soon Forget, Parting Ways, or Animal?

I thought that for a long time. Then I really got into Dave’s original and prefer it now.

That’s a depends on the mood song. It’s perfectly placed somedays and it’s on the wrong album other days.
But it always works live and a mood setter. Mike especially gets to really shine.

I disagree with every point you’re trying to make. Except maybe the Mike part.

Why break the habit of a lifetime
Where would you put it?
The only bizarre nonsensical thing about that song?
They made it the first single. Of all the fuckin amazing songs on there they went with the dark dirge.
That never made any sense to me.
