need to listen. Vastly prefer the studio FoN but if I recall this was a very good version of All or None, and is a song that I often find better live

I never even listen to the videos. Defeats the purpose

Force of nature all the way

Pj can never muster the mood and atmosphere of songs like All or none in the live setting. Release being the only exception to that rule.

I totally agree.

I don't think voting on a specific live performance of a given song assists in determining the band's "best live song" as it isn't indicative of how well or poorly that particular song is performed generally.

All or none...but both of them are good examples of good songs they should play life more often.

the ENTIRE premise of this tournament is the specific comparison of these live performances.

That’s why I said voting defeats the purpose. But I think the premise is taking apples v oranges to absolute extremes.

I thought it was the band's "best live song"?

Nope. Best live performance of a song. Theoretically, the song can be shit, but the performance of said song could be so great it’s better than a mediocre performance of a great song. But, the voting isn’t really going that way. I’m trying to as much as I can, but if I don’t like the song, no performance of it is gonna make me like it better than a tune I really dig.

Seriously, how are you guys still confused by the idea of this tournament? It’s been pretty damn clear from the beginning.

The actual name of the tournament is "best live song", though. I think framing the voting around a particularly good version of each song probably isn't the best way of reaching a consensus on that as it's not representative of how well or badly their usually perform it. As it is, we're simply just voting for the best song on one particular live compilation.

I love Evacuation and am pretty ho-hum on Hard to Imagine (as songs) but voted for the latter when they were against each other as I know they've very, very rarely managed a good performance of the former. Voting in good conscience, Evacuation is definitely not the better live song.

You voted correctly.

The tournament title isn't as clear as it could be but here's Stip's description in the OP
Welcome to the 2019 March Madness. This year the we are voting on the best live performance of (almost) every pearl jam song. Song selection is based on the Green Habit II compilation orgainized by the incomparable Ridleybradout, featuring several years worth of input from the Red Mosquito Brains Trust.

stip’s description sounds like we ought to be voting on 850 versions of Even Flow, then Alive, Better Man, etc.

Which would be insane. And that’s why he specified with this:

Yes, but for the reasons I explained above, I don’t feel that’s indicative of the band’s “best live song”.
