Film: The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug (2013)
This looks badass. Knew the second one would be where it's at.

Color me skeptical. The first trailer of Journey wasn't terrible, either.
Also, another of my old man complaints...I wish trailers didn't have to give you everything ahead of time, now. "Look! Legolas is in it! Hey! Hey I said LEGOLAS you fanboy FUCKS! And here's the FUCKING DRAGON, so the reveal won't mean shit to you in the confines of the movie! You're goddamn welcome!"

I'm also shocked and deeply disappointed that they showed Smaug McP.

Right? And what really throws me off about that is, you'd be way better off in terms of marketing if you played up all those ominous "here there be dragons" moments but stopped just short of showing it. Curiosity, mystery, and buzz always pump a well better than brutal honesty. "The dragon approacheth" would pile way more excitement than "oh, and btw guys here's the drag, k?"dimejinky99 wrote:I'm also shocked and deeply disappointed that they showed Smaug McP.

I've got a new outlook on trailers. I see them as free 2 minute movies that show me all the cool shit so I dont have to sit through a two hour movie anymore.McParadigm wrote:Color me skeptical. The first trailer of Journey wasn't terrible, either.

There are definitely a lot of times when this is true. Most of what isn't covered in the initial trailers gets filled in during that last big push...the only thing World War Z needs to give us is a few shots revealing the end of the movie, and we're covered there.BurtReynolds wrote:I've got a new outlook on trailers. Re: Film: The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug (2013)
I dnt fucking get it. Back when GDT was still directing this Jackson said in an interview something like smaug is the original talking dragon. The nemesis dragon that all dragons in fiction ever after have been based on. So we have to make him the most intimidating powerful dragon ever. (Roughly his words)
So why give him away so cheaply?)?
My boyfriend just made the point that I'm a hardcore fan so obviously I'd be annoyed. But me and you other hardcore fans need to realise that we're a tiny percentage of the overall and the reveal in the trailer is for the cinema going public. Not the hardcore.
He's right I guess.
Menengroth(Thranduils halls) looks amazing. I'm fully prepared to love Thranduil. Bout time we had a bitter elf. And he's a king!!(he's Legolas' father for you non fans and that's why Legolas is in this film).
Also the bear at the gate. Beorn? Who knows.
The shots with Bilbo scrambling down the golden hoarde.. Is he not meant to have the ring on????
Kill Azog now. Pointless storyline!!!
And on and on.

I'm not interested as soon as I read 'The Hobbit:'.

Re: Film: The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug (2013)
Meaning you've recently read the hobbit and aren't interested having seen the first film?
I had a sad laugh the other day. One slim book bloated into three movies. Yet the three LOTR books could have done with three films each, easily.
Sad how it goes.
Theonering.net published an article recently about how would Tolkien feel about the LOTR films, and very very weirdly, it seems once he sold the film rights(for next to nothing by today's standards) and with some caveats, he 85% ish agreed with what would have to be changed to make it work.
In one script he was sent, the fellowship(aka the 9 walkers in the books) are taxi'd very where in eagles. He railed against this and rightly so
I'd love to go back in time with a huge big plasma screen and the three extended editions and watch them with him. Can't help bit think he'd be horrified.
But more horrified about the treatment of Hobbit I think.
We will never know.

Guys, it's a dragon. We all know what a dragon looks like. How does it ruin anything by seeing Smaug? It's not like it is going to be some new never before seen type of dragon, or Puff the Magic Dragon, it's just a dragon. I'll be more angry if they have another scene with dwarves singing about doing the dishes.

The first Hobbit was so bad. I just don't even care. Yes, Evangeline Lilly, of course! But...

Can't say the trailer did much for me. I'll probably still see it. I'm just disappointed that we don't get the premier for this again...

We all know how it ends, too, so they should just put the climactic five minutes where everything is resolved online when they try and sell the third one.E.H. Ruddock wrote:Guys, it's a dragon.
