At best Pence could be a "placeholder" president for a few months. No way he could win 2020.

Don’t overthink this. It’s a solid thread concept.

For Pence (and Barr for that matter) to go down with the ship, the House will have to separately impeach both of them. Hopefully, there’s enough damning evidence for them to do that and they act upon it.

Of course, the Senate has to vote Trump out first.

There is no world where the Democrats will impeach Pence too. It doesn’t matter what he did or knew.

There also may be a good chance that Trump dumps Pence for a different VP for the 2020 election.

I thought there was no pardoning impeached offenses. Isn’t that like the one thing that can’t be pardoned?

I suspect (if it doesn’t get better for him soon, and seeing as how he just admitted to it all in public...I don’t know how it would) that Senate Republicans will offer him a resignation/pardon out, with the understanding that if he does not take it, enough of them are prepared to remove him for Democrats to succeed. I also believe that Democrats would 100% accept a resignation/pardon scenario.

Presidential pardons apply only to federal crimes, right? If so, then, say, the New York AG could get feisty and bring charges against Trump, and a federal pardon might not mollify Trump enough.

What a time to be alive.

I'm not talking about just that scandal, but any crimes Trump may have committed. Being president gives him a sort of shield from state action for now.
