Yeah...he's been pretty consistently good for a while now. 1965 was such a fucking amazingly great record. I've really gotten into the Whigs stuff from Congregation on. I've listened to the Gutter Twins and Twilight Singers records a couple times; I like them but I've never delved deeply like I have with the Whigs.

I cannot believe the Whigs toured last year and I completely missed it. Goddamn overwhelming PJ hype was distracting.

The Afghan Whigs Return to Sub Pop for First Album in 16 Years, Do to the Beast
The Afghan Whigs got started in 1986, broke up in 2001, then got back together for a reunion tour in 2012. Last year, for some reason, they joined Usher at SXSW to cover "Climax". Now, 16 years after they released last album 1965, the band are back with a new LP. It's called Do to the Beast and it's out via Sub Pop on April 14 in Europe and April 15 in North America.
Prior to their on-stage reunion in 2012, the band got together in 2006 to record two new songs for their compilation Unbreakable: "Magazine" and "I'm a Soldier".
The new album also marks the band's return to Sub Pop, who put out 1990's Up in It and 1992's Congregation and Uptown Avondale EP. The label released a run of 1993's Gentlemen and 1996's Black Love on vinyl, though the release was more widely handled by Afghan Whigs' new label, Elektra. Their last LP, 1965, was released by Columbia Records. In recent years, Sub Pop has released albums from frontman Greg? Dulli's projects the Twilight Singers and the Gutter Twins (his duo with Mark Lanegan).
News of the new record was initially broken by "Mr. Show"/"Breaking Bad" star Bob Odenkirk.
The Afghan Whigs will play both weekend's of this year's Coachella.

Saw the early show at OTSOF. What a fucking pro Dulli is. He kept treating the sound guy for minor fuck ups and made it a point to discourage flash photography, stating that it was he who was the flash and no cameras were needed. He doesnt have a great voice but damned if he didnt sound just like the records. I'm also pretty sure they played a new Whigs song...

http://pitchfork.com/news/71759-the-afg ... -and-video
The Afghan Whigs have announced their new album In Spades. The follow-up to 2014’s Do to the Beast was written and produced by frontman Greg? Dulli, and is out May 5 on Sub Pop. It is the band’s first album since guitarist Dave Rosser was diagnosed with cancer last year. They’ve also shared the Phil Harder-directed video for their new track “Demon in Profile.” It stars Har Mar Superstar. Watch it below. Scroll down for the album’s tracklist and artwork, as well as the Afghan Whigs’ new European tour dates, which include a stop at Primavera Sound.

“It’s a spooky record,” said Dulli of the album in a statement. “I like that it’s veiled. It’s not a concept album per se, but as I began to assemble it, I saw an arc and followed it. To me it’s about memory—in particular, how quickly life and memory can blur together.”

Dave Rosser has inoperable colon cancer. Really love his playing. Hope this record isn't his last. The artwork is badass.
