Why? It’s the better song.

The Gotye song came out during a time when I was not paying attention to pop music at all, so I’d actually never heard it until I was setting up this tournament! I have to say I thought it was GREAT. Really beautiful song - and a great video too.
NC2U is a very good song too but I’m giving the edge to STIUTK.

One of these is a good pop song, the other is emotionally devastating.
Easy choice for NC2U

One of the most annoying songs of all time versus a gorgeous depiction of loss and mourning. Of course "Nothing Compares 2 U" wins.

It's Sting singing "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star" through an NPR aestheticLoathedVermin72 wrote:The Gotye song came out during a time when I was not paying attention to pop music at all, so I’d actually never heard it until I was setting up this tournament! It does have a Sting-like quality, but better than any of his songs this past decade.

Yes it’s very Stingish but I like Stingtheplatypus wrote:It's Sting singing "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star" through an NPR aestheticLoathedVermin72 wrote:The Gotye song came out during a time when I was not paying attention to pop music at all, so I’d actually never heard it until I was setting up this tournament! Nothing Compares 2 U in what I imagine will be one of my easier votes. That song is soul crushing. The Gotye song is...fine.

NC2U is obviously the better song. And Prince wrote it.
But if I had the choice of which to listen to right now, I'm going with Mr. Gotye and his soothing, NPR aesthetic.

I just listened to both songs again and I’m gonna say I actually think the Gotye song is significantly better. Musically, it’s far more dynamic and compelling, with NC2U feeling like a static, overlong slog by comparison. I also find its depiction of grief more haunting and moving.
Gotye all day here.
