River Cross

Always thought I’d cross that river
The other side distant now
As I got close it turned and widened
Arising now, fading out

Drifting in the undertow
Can’t spot a figure on dry land
And afterthoughts of safety
When in truth, none to be had
None to be had

I used to tell time by my shadow
‘til the thunder clouds, they took the stage
These days will end, as do the light’s rays
Another read of the same page

Wide awake through this deepest night
Still waiting on the sun
As the hours seem to multiple
Find a star to solider on

Living beneath a lion’s paw
Knowing nothing can be tamed
Can be tamed

I want this dream to last forever
A wish denied to lengthen our time
I wish this moment was never ending
Let it be a lie that all future’s die

While the government thrives on discontent
And there’s no such thing as clear
Proselytizing and profitizing
As our will all but just disappears
Folded over, forced in a choke hold
Outnumbered and held down

And all this talk of rapture
Look around at the promise now
Here and now
Here and now
Can’t hold me down
Can’t hold me down
Won’t hold us down
Won’t hold us down

Live it out
Let it out
Get it out
Shout it out
Won’t hold us down
Won’t hold us down

Share the light
Won’t hold us down…

I actually like this song quite a bit up to the "share the light" part.

I love this song

they play it too fast here

Matt is doing a little too much; I appreciate that his drums are distant and echoey, but they could do with being... even more distant and echoey

yeah still good but I had high hopes after the solo version - should have stuck to that I think but I need more listens

I mean, I prefer the live version, but they haven't butchered this - happy enough

Never heard the live solo version so I might love this as is.

Never heard the live version. But this is better than I expected coming out of Retrograde. Opening reminds me or Radiohead's Motion Picture Soundtrack, then New Age-y turn actually sorta works.

Matt getting a bit carried away on this. His contribution is totally unnecessary. On first listen it totally spoils it.

I really like this song...the live version was very somber and the album version is more hopeful. In any case they didn't butcher it like Speed of Sound or Sleeping By Myself

yea I hope they release the demo or ed solo version as the holiday single so I can 'gone' this track . not terrible but yea loses the emotional notes with too much instruments.

A nice little middle of the road number.

i only listened to the solo version a handful of times. thus far this made a stronger impression. Love the way the bass (i think) tiptoes through this

I'm so used to it only being two verses that the last parts will take some getting used too, but I love it still.
