How long do we have to wait to legitimately declare Gigaton a top 3 PJ album, or for that matter, our favorite Pearl Jam album?

Oh no. No, no, no. Oh good lord, no. I won’t. I won’t, indeed. Not in the slightest. Not even momentarily. I mustn’t, and I shan’t.

My Current Favorites
Gigaton
Binaural

Feeling the artwork, reading the lyrics, following along with the booklet as the album progresses, these two albums feel similar to me and I absolutely love them both.

The Undeniable Classics
Vs.
Ten
Vitalogy

These three are absolute classics for a reason. Wherever you rank them amongst your favorites, everyone agrees they are staples and classics for a reason.

Awesome Albums, Amongst the Best
Yield
No Code
Riot Act

Creativity in spades. Classics in their own right. An argument can be legitimately made these are top albums. We’re eight albums deep folks. :heartbeat:

Good Album, Awful Production
Avocado

The songs are there for a pretty damn good PJ album, but it sounds like shit on the record. Every single song was better live.

Please Ignore
Backspacer
Lightning Bolt

These are so, so, bad. Ugh.

YEEEEEAAAAASSSSSSSS :luv:
I rank it around S/T in quality. Delighted for the band and the fans, that we got such a good album. But it won't be a top three PJ album for me.

It's better than Backspacer and Lightning Bolt but still quite a bit worse than the rest.

it's better than S/T, BS and LB

it's the 8th Wonder of the World

I'm happy enough with that

It is better than every PJ album except the first 3. There, I said it.

I hadn't been saying it more out of respect for Yield and No Code rather than actual love of the songs on those albums. There are definitely songs on both albums that I love but as complete albums, I don't see either exceeding Gigaton which hardly has a skippable song.

Binaural and Riot Act have always been a notch below for me so not difficult to place Gigaton above them. S/T is in the same category as these two. BS and LB are in the enjoyable but not memorable category which is the bottom tier.

S/T is the last album that feels like Pearl Jam to me. Gigaton, while being quite a bit better than the last too, is still a 'modern version of Pearl Jam (starting with Backspacer)' record with all it's usual faults. Don't get me wrong, though. I like Gigaton. It's just not the Pearl Jam renaissance in my eyes like it is for some people.

6-12 months, with at least 6 months being out of quarantine.
