The 2018 tour was an up and down tour. It began in March of 2018 and then picked up in the summer of 2018 in Europe where Ed blew his voice out at Pinkpop. Something happened after that - the band was playing more cohesively than they had in the last 10 years. It lead to some interesting choices and made making this a challenge. But that’s not the only reason this mix exists.

Around the time of that tour was when my life fell apart. I was hospitalized with a condition called diverticulitis. Mine was even worse because I two abcesses and I was subsequently diagnosed with Crohn’s disease. I spent 6 nights in hospital before I was well enough to go home without surgery. I lost 40 pounds in 4 weeks after that hospitalization. At the same time, my Mother's long term illness was reaching its end stage and we were forced to put her in a nursing home.

When the 2018 bootlegs came out, I kept listening to particular song versions to keep myself from losing my mind, and help me deal with what was happening. Taking care of my mom and my own condition left my wife and I in a deep hole. With all this, in the spring of 2019, we moved back home. Two days after I arrived, my father suffered a massive stroke. At this time, I went even further with some of these tracks to help me deal with my situation.

I had laid down rough tracks for this mix a few years back, but never really put it all together until a few weeks ago after relistening to the 2003 tour. Each disc represents a hospital bed, pain, sadness, hate, grief and hope. I think everyone needs hope right now and this mix represents those emotions.

'Diver' is short for diverticulitis. I sought out help for this condition in online support groups and learned of the nickname. But in a way, through that period I always thought of myself as a diver underwater in a diving bell when things went bad. It was the only way I could save myself and keep going moving forward.

So with no tour this year and a live 2018 concert video release around the corner, I present to you my attempt at my own version of a Live on Two/Ten Legs. I hope you enjoy it. I hope you can use music in a time of need too.

great mix, and what a tough year you had. I hope you are better now.

The Padova show was something else really. I still remember everything about it. Went from france to italy by car just to see it. Amazing road trip.

That sounds like an incredibly rough time, I hope you are on an upswing friend :heartbeat:

I am really interested after reading this:
Something happened after that - the band was playing more cohesively than they had in the last 10 years

Lowlight79, thanks a BILLION for exposing your soul and being vulnerable with sharing this story and sharing this compilation with us. Over the past week I've been dealing with my father suddenly getting sick and his energy depleting almost entirely. Driving to and from the hospital and his apartment (he lived alone on the second floor), I listened to this compilation along with other Pearl Jam and Eddie Vedder releases. While listening, I contemplated where he should go for inpatient rehab, where he should live after that, the difficult conversation I needed to have with his apartment management about breaking his lease early, when/how I was to move everything out of h is apartment, and what else we need to do to prepare for the inevitable: death, whenever that may be. Even with knowing that Eddie Vedder is an athiest and me being a Christian, I still found a spiritual connection through this compilation, especially through the obvious songs like "Love Boat Captain." Finally, my father and I bonded over a lot of different music as I was growing up, but one of my favorite discoveries through him was Pearl Jam, when I discovered his "Ten" cassette tape in about 1993/94. So this compilation also brings back many fond memories of us riding around in his car, rockin' out to all those releases of the '90s as I was going through middle and high school. Now, I find hope knowing that my Chicago born/raised father will be able to walk again someday, just as Eddie Vedder believed the Cubs would go "All the Way" someday... which they did. Yes, miracles do happen.

The version of "In Hiding" on here is delightfully normal-tempo
