In the morning, I have to run around every half hour to make sure each kid has started school. I'm gonna have to do the same thing, making sure they have something to eat at lunch. My middle schooler's pissed that he only gets a half hour.
I would complain, but my wife's a teacher. She says to just shut up and let one of the pain-in-the-ass parents do the complaining for me.

Just for context, I have a 3rd grader, a 7th grader, and a 9th grader. I don't know what that means for people outside of the US, but for me it's one kid in each of 3 different schools.

My sister has been really angry that she's going to have to do this again. I should keep an eye on this thread to see if there are any tips in here that she can use.

Our daughter starts K in a couple of weeks. She'll be in person either M-T or Th-F, and home Wednesday. We're probably going to send her to an outdoor/nature-focused daycare on the two off days and let the grandmas fight over Wednesdays.
Which is to say, I probably won't be doing much homeschooling this semester, at least until everything goes to shit in October or so.

So far it's a minor pain. The only major disturbance was my daughter crying in the middle of class b/c yesterday she watched a Minecraft YouTube video where someone shot a dog.

Staggering the start times is completely unhinged. Good lord.

Pfffft, you people who live in places where the start of school is already planned. Our governor isn't going to announce any decisions at the state level until September 1st (school is supposed to start 9/14). Cutting it close, baby!

Our plan was announced weeks ago, but we still don't know which cohort our kid will be in or which days she'll be in school vs. at home. We're pretty flexible, but I imagine that's very hard for some families.

Of course I'm sure the outcome of this will be a renewed respect for educators and the amount of labor they perform on a daily basis.

My grumbling about timing aside, teachers did a great job today.

? Local teacher's union here is demanding to limit the number of hours of online instruction far below normal in-person instruction. That is probably better for the students, especially young ones, but I rather doubt that is the motivating factor for the union.

Teachers love those three-ish months of freedom. They are especially annoyed that they couldn't do much with them this summer.

We're gonna need a “teachers are the worst” thread by November:
