Simple Torta: A Mexican Sandwich Thread

A good torta is arguably more important than a good taco on a menu. It's gotta be on sturdy but fluffy bread. I've never tried one "drowned" with red sauce but I bet with the right bread that would be a near perfect sandwich.

1. We probably already have that thread.
2. There's plenty to discuss regarding the torta. Definitely enough to merit a stand-alone thread.

How far would you need to drive to get a good one?

Also, if you were to use this thread to document a quest to make a good torta from scratch, I wouldn't be mad. Something like that sounds more manageable where you live than, say, tonkotsu ramen.

WM, to be authentic you need to try a drowned-in-red-sauce torta and then start this over.

I just had one with ham and smothered it in the green sauce that came with it. Impetus for this thread, kind of. It wasn't the best idea because the bread was too soft and it ended up being pretty soggy.

shut your whore mouth

And most likely I'd have to drive 30 mins to Belgrade to get a good torta. There were two torta dealerships in Big Sky and they were both rubbish!
That's not nearly as far as I had feared.

I like to think that Jonathon Gold is sleeping on a pile of pillows soft as telera somewhere up there.
