Why Go vs. In The Moonlight

I listen to In The Moonlight once a year to see if this is the year it clicks with me. I just find this song painfully boring. The lyrics are nonsensical without any evocative phrasing, the melody is plodding, Eddie's performance is devoid of any passion, the riff chugs along aimlessly, and the solos feel perfunctory. The song is a complete misfire for me on every single level and I am utterly baffled by the love it gets here. It's not even a song like Hitchhiker that I actively dislike. I just find it profoundly boring.


Even though the subject matter of Why Go feels more immature at age 43 then it did at age 14, the performance has lost none of its ferocity. Eddie kills it. The wall of guitar is intense, the solo is great, and it is one of my favorite Jeff performances. It still rules live. Everything about this song works. Oddly enough it has actually gone up in esteem for me over the years. It's almost a five star song for me. I love it

Why Go

Close, but I’m In the Moonlight.

The opening of Why Go alone earns it the win. Top 5 Jeff moment followed by that blast of guitar? Awesome. Even better live back on those early tours.

My gut vote was Moonlight. I came back to change it, but now it's 50/50. I'll stick with Moonlight for now.

In The Moonlight just never does anything for me. Like stip, i try it like once or twice a year, and i just never happens.

I fully expected to vote for In The Moonlight but after listening to both Why Go gets it.

Now that I've listened to both I am sure I like Why Go more, but I'm sticking with In the Moonlight b/c I want the underdog to take it.

In The Moonlight is maybe the best non-album track this band has released.

Why Go is maybe the worst song on this band's first three albums. I mean, it's still totally fine. I don't hate Why Go. But jesus In The Moonlight is SO fucking great.

10 songs on the first 3 albums I like less than Why Go. Technically, it's 11, but I'll be fair and leave Foxy Mop off the list.
