Arc vs. Love Boat Captain

Arguably the two biggest disappointments on Riot Act for me. LBC is probably the studio anthem I like the least (I've just always found this kind of flat and underwhelming from top to bottom, exacerbated by that terrible title and the 'all you need is love' nonsense. It does improve live a bit.

I had been waiting my whole fandom for a song that was just layers of Eddie's wordless vocalizations. And the inspiration for Arc is so powerful. And yet the final product is so forgettable. I think the Wolf ended up doing the same thing a few years later much more effectively, though the best of these moments is in Hard Sun

LBC I guess, but I really don't care

Matt shines on LBC. He builds it nicely and makes it far more interesting than it is.

Love Boat Captain is a horrendous song title (somehow even worse than "I Am Mine"). And I'm not thrilled with how the song ends, but I very nearly love the rest of it. Still find it moving after 20 years.

Im a huge huge fan of LBC, specially the studio version. I love the buildup, Ed´s vocals, Mike´s solo...its so fucking good. The bridge is awesome and the part with the ¨It's an art to live with pain, Mix the light into grey¨ fuuuuck i love those lyrics.

LBC doesn't get enough credit around here

Yeah, the drums tumbling into that second verse are an all-time studio highlight for me.
