Matter of Time was fine for its purpose. I've listened to Rock Around Barack exactly once.

I'll mirror Stardog's thoughts. I can't even bring myself to listen to Rock Around Barack a second time. I assume that's what I linked. I'll never know for sure.



Matter of Time needs the River Cross treatment, though. It really improved once the band got their hands on it.

I do kind of like the 'matter of time' stuff in the second half of the song

I refuse to even listen to these again.

I'm inclined to give it to Rock Around Barack because it's so spectacularly bad. There's almost an audaciousness to it when trying to understand how anyone ever thought that was a good idea. Matter of Time is a different and less fun form of bad, where you forget you're listening to it while you're listening to it.

both songs are written from a place of political/social intention, putting the lyrical concept ahead of the music. Rock Around Barack far excels in delivering something actually palatable relative to the subject matter.

So Matter of Time is going to make it further than Parting Ways, Given to Fly and Footsteps...
