I don't like Whale Song, though I guess it's kind of fun for what it is, and it's not like they ever tried to pass it off as an important track.


I love late period pearl jam, and Can't Deny Me is just a wretched song. Arguably their worst. I've just got nothing positive to say about it

I've always enjoyed Whale Song, and I prefer it over, say, Mankind or Don't Gimme No Lip or anything else that's PJ with Stone singing. Probably because Ed is right there in the chorus, but, still.

Yeah yeah. Initially I wrote a sentence that said I like this Jack vocal over any Stone vocal, but then I guess I rewrote it didn't mention him explicitly.

The world needs more Whale Songs

Reminds me of the story of Roger Payne and his efforts to distribute "Songs of the Humpback Whale" in the late 1960s / 70s.
Seriously, what started out as sharing reel-to-reel tape of whale recordings had an outsized impact on the environmental movement.

God, I think I'd honestly forgotten about Can't Deny Me. We'll never know it, but I'd certainly be interested in hearing the real story of how Brendan left and Evans came onboard; I seem to recall that Can't Deny Me was described as a song for PJ's "upcoming record."
