I love Sirens. Its one of the great ones..but All Those Yesterdays is super special to me. The studio version is so fucking cool, the band sounds relaxed and tight at the same time, Ed´s vocals are amazing...
All Those Yesterdays.

I like both of these quite a bit, and neither is one I have any particular personal connection to. I used to not be a fan of ATY but I came around to it in the back half of my fandom. I think I may like Sirens just a little bit more - ATY is more consistent but there are a few moments in Sirens I love more then any particular moment in ATY.

Voting for All Those Yesterdays, but that's no slight against Sirens.

The thing about Sirens is that I feel, at least at the outset, it was described (or was maybe sold) as being akin to an 80s power ballad, but I think the song actually lives in a different decade. It almost strikes me as a version of that anodyne kind of alternative rock you'd see in the mid to late-90s. It's produced and sounds like a Goo Goo Dolls song. And, to be honest, it can be pleasant, though I kind of forget it the second it's over.
But that's nothing compared to what I get and am still getting out of All Those Yesterdays; it manages to be something completely melodic and natural, while still not sounding quite like anything they've done before (it's also a good case for why it can be beneficial to have different people writing full songs; there's an effortless playfulness to this song's melody and lyrics I don't think I've ever heard in a song Eddie penned). As time has gone on, it's up there with being my favorite closer on a PJ record, along with Release and Parting Ways.

Stone generally writes the best vocal melodies of the other band songwriters. Matt's are usually pretty rough and Eddie can struggle with Jeff's sometimes.

The best thing about My Father’s Son is that it ends and gives way to Sirens
