Sorry if there is already a thread.

But Netflix is doing superbly with these original series.

It's OK. The writing is really really bad at parts.

It's like, of course we're going to do the old thing of having our main characters nudged towards these grand epiphanies by way of a seemingly innocuous and completely-out-of-character remark by a tertiary character, but this is pretty egregious.

Some of the characters are a lot of fun, though. I understand it's based on the lead character's actual memoir, so I guess it's an accurate depiction of female penitentiaries, with some dramatic embellishments.

yep and that's a bit surprising to me because the creator of the show did such a great job with Weeds

Ya know, I was starting to get really frustrated with Weeds. And I loved the Season Three finale so much that I just pretended that was the end of the series. Haven't watched an episode since, and I'm okay with it.

I did the same thing. Technically, I think it was the end of the original storyline--during/after s3 they brought in outside producers and my guess is that Showtime's desire to keep it on the air overran the creator's vision. My ex-gf watched the whole thing and actively dissuaded me from continuing after the s3 finale so I didn't.

That said, while I liked Weeds, it had moments of predictable writing--and I see the same things popping up from time to time here. Also not wild about all the flashbacks. But it's entertaining enough.

Two eps in, thoroughly enjoying it. I havent seen the "really bad writing" platy mentioned, though. This show is certainly not breaking any structural molds, but I feel like theyve created a unique world, a compelling main character, and some interesting supporting characters. This is the first Netflix original series that I'm genuinely enjoying.

nah, she looks fine.
To amend my earlier post, why did the crazy-eyed black girl with the crush on Piper give Piper those jalapenos in the second episode when Piper was being starved out? Did Piper put the word out that she was looking for jalapenos, or was that the only food that black girl could get so she gave it to Piper, not understanding that those are not exactly edible? Or is this one of Jorge's examples of a secondary character coming in and saving the day for no apparent reason?

I thought she overheard someone telling Red that Piper was looking to get jalapenos, but I can't remember.
