Listened to both of these today, actually. The start of Go is about as thrilling as it gets, but once the actual song kicks in (with the vocals), as good as it is, it doesn't quite live up to its full promise. Once we get going I prefer Animal.

Black, like Corduroy, is not a song I particularly need to hear anymore, but when you come back to it after some time away it's easy to remember how great it really is - especially the desolate meltdown at the end, all grief and loss and beauty

Vote for Black

I voted for Black anyway, but once you get to the 2:50 mark of Black it gets pretty untouchable. Listening to the RVM remix, which is probably my favorite version.

I just do not comprehend how people don't all have Ten in their top 3 albums.

I'm sure there are examples of this elsewhere, but I just can't think of anything like the dododododododo part of Black - a seemingly upbeat, innocuous, bubble gum pop vocalization sung like the world is ending.

Maybe he hasn't voted and is merely responding.

Go. I don’t want it to win for the third straight time, but I vote on which of the two songs I prefer.

Go, fairly easily. Black is a very good song, but it has the veneer of certain bombastic songwriting attributes that help the band on a lot of Ten, but don't really help here. It's striking how much better the band was playing (and Eddie was singing) the song soon after the album was released.

But Go is a killer song, and the first in a multi-album string of album openers that could also make a claim to be the highlight of the album's they're on.
