OK, we'll play with 7 players.
I'll draw numbers via random number generator. The LOWEST number shall have the first pick and so on. The last pick in round 1 shall have the first pick in round 2 and so on.
The 1 pick will face the 2 pick. The 3 pick will face the 4 pick. The 5, 6, and 7 picks will be in a 3 way where the top 2 advance. The top vote getter in the 3 way will face the winner of the 1 v. 2 matchup and the other advancing team from the 3 way will face the winner of 3 v. 4.
Everyone drafts 5 franchises. A franchise will be any series with more than one entry. Unreleased games do not count (sorry Horizon). Some franchises may have games with a name different from the rest of the franchise, i.e. Super Mario RPG is part of the Paper Mario franchise (Paper Mario was originally called Super Mario RPG 2). Front Mission's first entries had a different name too, I think. Super Mario is a separate franchise from Mario Kart, Mario Party, Paper Mario etc. Final Fantasy Tactics is separate from Final Fantasy. Franchises with no name linkage do count as a franchise i.e. Ico, Shadow of the Colossus, Last Guardian. PC franchises are draftable (but the PC is not draftable as a console pick). Arcade franchises are draftable (but arcade is not draftable as a console pick).
Everyone drafts 1 console. PC and Arcade are not draftable.
Everyone drafts 1 controller. Please be specific, i.e. PS3 SIXAXIS, Nintendo Switch Joy Cons, etc. PC controllers are draftable.
Everyone drafts 1 accessory. Almost anything goes here. PC accessories are draftable. Sega CD, 32X, Nintendo 64DD, PSVR shall count as accessories. Again, be specific.
It should be said - all handheld consoles, franchises and accessories are draftable.
- Spoiler: show
- Now that PJ March Madness is over, I was seeing if there is interest in another video game tournament. It's been 1.5 years since the last video game tournament (individual games). I was thinking about a Franchise + Hardware draft & tourney. Each team would draft 5 franchises, 1 console, 1 specific controller (i.e. DualShock2) and 1 accessory (i.e. Zapper, Guitar Hero guitar, GameBoy Camera, etc.).
Anyone interested in this idea? Another idea?

To avoid arguments later...
Console or accessory? Sega CD, 32X, N64 Disk Drive, Kinect, PSVR. All have specific games, but need a different base console to play.

If they held their own operating systems and contained their own game libraries, they are systems.
If they were simply add-ons that allowed games to be played that were stored on an existing system (PSVR, for instance), they are peripherals.
So you’re saying they are peripherals. None would be drafted as consoles anyway. None might drafted as accessories either.

Next question: PC allowed as a console pick?

Is there some easy technological line of demarcation between PC eras? If not then I think it’s too big a console for one team to get. But their games should be up for grabs.
I feel the same way. Saying PC would mean 40+ years. Typical consoles are 7 years or less.

Agree.
Should backwards compatibility also be considered when selecting a console or only the library for that specific era?

I would view it as part of a console’s capability. Personally, I would only really count its own library. That’ll probably differ from user to user.

The people will decide when casting their votes.
