RM's Top 50 Pearl Jam Songs (March Madness)

Post by ABNorman »

So, I've been entertaining myself while looking after my daughter at odd hours by collating all the March Madness data, including vote tallies.

Notes:
  • * There are no vote tallies for 2004, but 2005 lists the seeds. For this post, I just ignored 2004 rather than populate vote tallies.
    * 2018 was a series of survivor mini tournaments before the championship elimination tournament. I just assigned the average vote of each song overall to the results in 2018, though it could probably be fine-tuned to take into account how early they were voted out and what percentage of the elimination vote they received.
    * 2006 and 2007 were run through TSIS, and got a LOT more votes. I've separated these out to give the "RM-only" list.
RM's Top 50 Pearl Jam songs

As determined by the results of all March Madness tournaments except 2004, 2006 and 2007
Corduroy has an average of 156 votes per tournament across all its appearances, making 6 finals.

This may be the most on-the-spectrum thing I've ever done.

A few of the newer songs benefit from a couple of years of strong performances followed by a decline as people change their mind over the years.

Not sure how to control for that effect though.

I am not understanding how Take The Long Way ended up so high but no Who Ever Said or Quick Escape, which appear to be much more appreciated Gigaton tracks.

Quick Escape was knocked out in the second round by Not For You.

Take the Long Way had a bit of a cruise: Infallible, Whale Song, Comatose, then knocked out by Corduroy.

Once they've got a few more tournaments under their belts, I expect TtLW to drop down.

No, I understand you’re not a fan, but I couldn’t disagree more.

I like the song ok. It’s just not a favorite. I’m not like ruddo with it.

Look at Dance in the top 15 already. And it's only appeared in one of these so far.
