You don’t like Tom Hanks?

No. Cheeseball hack. I'd take Winslet over him any day of the week.

Hanks is about as charismatic as it gets, but a good, not great actor. Would've been a great news man, sportscaster, anything like that.

Hanks is great, but Winslet is better.

Williams is the cheeseball hack. He sucks. THE CAGE wins handily.

I would've appreciated the Hanks pick more if it were chosen in a later round. Just too many great actors to choose from.

Cage has so many bad movies, his name on a movie means nothing to me anymore. Was a fan in the 90s. Hanks is the opposite. Like James Stewart he has made an incredible amount of quality movies, including a few all time great roles vs Cage in Leaving Las Vegas.

Winslet is talented, but is mostly boring. Williams was madly talented, and had many standout roles.

Easy 2-0

I'd take Will Ferrell over Robin Williams, and Tom Hanks attachment to a project signals to me that it's a movie for grandparents to fall asleep during.

On the other hand I appreciate Anders' attempt to fill the LV-sized-hole of "man who has seen a lot of movies and has absolutely bonkers opinions about them."

I would not call Hanks over Cage a bonkers opinion.

It’s an honor to be compared to my friend LV.

But let’s have another look at Tom Hanks:

Splash - 1984
Big - 1988 (top ten movie for me as a kid, still really good, he also won a golden globe)
A League Of Their Own - 1992
Sleepless In Seattle - 1993
Philadelphia - 1993 (best actor at the oscars)
Forrest Gump 1994 (best actor at the oscars)
Apollo 13 - 1995
Toy Story - 1995 (great)
That Thing You Do - 1996
Saving Private Ryan - 1998 (great)
Toy Story 2 - 1999
The Green Mile - 1999 (great)
Cast Away - 2000 (he won another golden globe here)
Road To Perdition - 2002
Catch Me If You Can - 2002
The Ladykillers - 2004
The Terminal - 2004
The Da Vinci Code - 2006 (and sequels)
Charlie Wilson’s War - 2007
Toy Story 3 - 2010
Cloud Atlas - 2012
Captain Phillips - 2013
Saving Mr. Banks - 2013
Bridge Of Spies - 2015
Sully - 2016
The Post - 2017
Toy Story 4 - 2019
A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood - 2019
Greyhound - 2020
News Of The World - 2020

Some ok movies, some great movies. Fantastic career.

Again, we seem to be confusing great movies with great actors. Sure, he has great charisma and work ethic and people love him. But it can be helpful to ask yourself if you can imagine other decent actors in those roles, where they're as good or better. There aren't a lot of Tom Hanks roles I can't do that with.

For most of his top roles I can’t imagine anyone outperforming what he did.

Steve Albini wrote:Whenever there's active promotion on the part of somebody else, whenever I see somebody all dolled up for a fancy photograph and someone's handing out flyers or whenever there's active promotion for something like that, as an imposition on my day, I hate all those people and I want them to fail. I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.
