i love the full band version, but this one is just b-e-a-you-tee-full.

I am a fan of these guys, but haven't invested in their albums too heavily as yet. I do know that often I hear a song on the radio, think that's familiar, and when I check it its invariably Big Thief. Weird.

i only learned of these sessions tonight.

two things of note:

1. what happened to her tooth? has it always been missing? not a dealbreaker, but it took me aback at first. hadn't noticed it in earlier clips of them.

2. the throat-singing around the 3:10 mark...i kind of like it.

Ha! I finally just listened to your RM Voice Interview - nice job! I got to the end and forgot I'd asked you a question, so was kinda surprised when Bammer said "Higgs has a question for you" (gotta drink less when I RM, I tell ya).

You recommended Bill Callahan/Smog to me, and I must admit I haven't heard a lot of him, although his name is dropped around here quite a bit. So that's my task for the week - Ima listen to some Bill Callahan/Smog tunes. I will report back!

On a related side-note I'da killed that question about getting away with murder btw. I have it all sorted. Bwa-ha-ha...

Oh, for thread integrity, I am currently listening to Adrianne Lenker's 2020 album "songs". Very distinctive voice she has.

it truly is.

ghost brings up a solid point about them. In nearly all the press photos of them, someone has an arm or hand on another member of the band.

also, there's a new yorker profile of lenker, and it mentions that her and buck meek were once married, but are divorced, and now just "deep friends." maybe they're all deep friends.

Nah, I knew that. I actually played that mix again a few Fridays ago. Was in the mood for some fem vox and thought to myself "I know what to listen to".

I've heard a reasonable amount of their stuff, just haven't spent a lot of time with the full albums is all.

There are so many things about this band that rub me the wrong way. The constant touching/hugging/laying on each other in band photos, Buck Meek's herky jerky guitar motions, Lenker's voice sometimes. It makes them hard to like, for me. But Masterpiece and Not are incredible. And Buck Meek's solo album is probably in my top 3 of 2021. If they could lay off the contrivances a bit they'd probably be my favorite band.

masterpiece and not are my top songs by them as well.

and I've seen other people comment on this before, but they often sound a little like crazy horse, and i love that comparison.
