march madness 2022

It's January, which means it's a new year and time to start planning this year's march madness. I am leaning towards a totally randomized tournament, where every round all surviving songs are reshuffled so anything could go up against anything in a given round (single elimination, though). Thoughts?
likewise, should I cut the demos and songs we know are going nowhere, or aim for completion? I'll remove the Eddie solo songs. The random seeding should (I think) help balance out the tournament so I don't need to worry about maintaining a certain number

Sounds great. Cut demos, but keep all album songs.

I've said this before, all matchups should be 3 songs (or more). It would speed things along too. Seems like this would be suited for a bracketless March Madness.

How about everyone submits a list of ten Pearl Jam songs, ranked. First place gets 10 points, second place gets 9 points...tenth place gets 1 point.
The top 64 songs by points are put in a tournament.

Ohhh, I like this idea, at least for the first two rounds. We'll move quicker and we might get some exciting matchups with an unlucky draw. I do want to keep the past winners in, though.
I'm backing Rearviewmirror or Dance this year. Those are the two PJ songs that have meant the most to me in the past year

Anything to keep "In the Moonlight"'s chances down, huh?

that's one of those demo songs I figured we'd just cut.

Let’s just get this over quickly and only submit the 5 or 6 songs that always win

I say embrace and enjoy. We’ve done this a lot of times but I always find joy in this exercise every year- I say go full on, and Safe in the Car needs better positioning so it can advance this year!

Stip, I don't mean to share the contents of our PM exchange, but I think this post might be confusing to some of the other RM'ers. It turns out, Stip had been listening to the low quality mp3 of the Matt Cameron MySpace demo of "In the Moonlight" all this time, thinking that was the finished version of the song that Joey and I and others have expressed enthusiasm for so often over the years, hence his characterization of the song as a "demo" in the post quoted above. However, upon directing his attention to the "definitive Pearl Jam songs/versions" thread that he himself helped create, he now understands that there is an official studio version of this song, which he has listened to several times and thinks is -- and I quote -- "pretty incredible really, a masterful confluence of mood, texture, and imagery, and probably better than 2/3 of the songs on Vitalogy."
A proper write-up is forthcoming apparently, of this new-to-him Pearl Jam song of whose existence he was only partially aware, but rest assured the song WILL feature in the MM tournament this year.

I am confused. Is this not on Lost Dogs?
