Why would a company buy virtual real estate for real money?

Why would anybody want to "go" there?

Is this dumber than NFTs?

I once helped design a virtual horse armor that made $15 million dollars in sales in the first few days.

People will buy anything if you tell them it's important and scarce.

My wife spends a lot of time developing real estate in Animal Crossing assuming that counts.

Cosmetic DLC really changed my entire outlook on humanity. All of this makes perfect sense to me now.

Combined with VR and social media, I don't see how this can't happen.

The wealthy might be powerful enough to meme this into existence whether anyone wants it or not. And then people will want it.
