Whipping vs. Of the Girl vs. Daughter

Of the Girl creates a nice mood that doesn't actually transport me anywhere other than some weird stasis moment where I am kind of waiting for the song to begin.

Whipping is a powerhouse - one of those relatively simple songs I never tire of hearing.

But Daughter is effortlessly great

Right now I'm voting for Daughter, which is my favorite of the early songs that I knew before getting deep into Pearl Jam when I was in middle school. But I could very easily switch my vote to Of the Girl before this is over.

The Of the Girl instrumental on PJ20 soundtrack needs to be added in place of Leaving Here. That is so awesome. The track with vocals of course is its equal. Of the Girl is a great song.

Absolutely. I love love love Of the Girl, but I love Daughter more.

There are actually very few songs I'd vote for against Daughter.

From the moment I heard Whipping in Murfreesboro 1994, it has remained amongst the top for me. After they finished it, we all just turned to each other with “what the fuck was that?!?”

I love Of The Girl and Daughter, but sentiment wins out in this case.

Daughter's average vote count of 78 beats out Of the Girl at 59.

Daughter's highest place was a quarterfinal loss to Corduroy, whereas Of the Girl has made a coupla Top 32s.

Daughter's a great song and all, but it's no Cropduster!

What Stip says about "Of the Girl" is exactly what I love about it -- it finds this perfect liminal space between spaciness and groove, and lingers there until it just sort of runs out of gas and gives up. I'd love to hear a version of that went on longer than 4.5 minutes -- like, way longer.

"Daughter," yeah, it's great, and in a lot of ways that outro jam they do with it live is kind of a spiritual forerunner to "Of the Girl." It deserves to go far. But "Of the Girl" is closer to where my heart lies with all things PJ.

I'd rank Daughter higher than Cropduster, I think. But both are top tier.
