Swallowed Whole vs Yellow Ledbetter vs. All or None

Yellow Ledbetter fatigue set in a decade ago. Swallowed Whole could have been a decent song.

All Or None is fantastic.

All or None is a song I have always struggled with. There's been a little too much dreariness on Riot Act for me to want to close with such a forlorn song, and while Eddie sounds really good, I don't like stone's part that much. Mike sounds great but I am disinvested enough in the song by the end that I can't really bring myself to care.

Swallowed Whole has the song of a great song in it, that never quite gets fully realized. The Dark on Earthling goes to some of the same places so much better.

Yellow Ledbetter is maybe a top 10 song. A stone cold masterpiece, and arguably Eddie's best vocals.

Yea, there are some songs that I/We can take for granted. Yellow Ledbetter can be one of them. Listening to that song on headphones is pure joy. However, All or None is a really wonderful song as well that I can still be highly moved by on particular days.

Tough one.

Ledbetter fatigue is real, but these two songs aren't good enough to capitalize on it.

Going with All or None; it's a hushed song that doesn't draw a ton of attention to itself, but it has one of my favorite vocal performances and definitely my favorite Mike solo in the band's career.

I'm not that big into Swallowed Whole and I enjoy Yellow Ledbetter's place in the catalog; I don't mind at all that it's just such predictable way to end the show; it's a nice kind of tradition they've naturally established. But even listening to the studio version, I wouldn't put it as one of their finest songs.

I'm really tempted to join Strat and Kevin in the kill yr idols camp. It's fun to imagine what kind of matchups will come from legendary iconic songs losing in the first round. I'll have to muse on this for a bit.

"Swallowed Whole" isn't going to get my vote, though I don't hate the song. In the past, it's been one of my favorite Lightning Bolt cuts, which is sadly not saying much. I think it's got some overwrought parts and questionable production choices, but is otherwise tolerable. "All or None" is the long denouement of a dark journey. Much of it feels hopeless, but I've always heard faint rays of sunshine near the end. We all know "Yellow Ledbetter" and it's iconic standing as a weary, triumphant finale. It's lovely, though not an all-timer for me, and it was my most immediate choice in this match.
