Elderly woman has never been a favourite although I appreciate the writing and also its place in PJ folklore.

Let It Ride here.

I genuinely enjoy Future Days, though how much of that is because of my kids I guess I'll never know. Cold Confession and Let it Ride dropped the day my first child was born. I listened to both of those songs so many times at the hospital those next few days. Cold Confession was amazing. Let it Ride never clicked with me. I've always found it a bit staid. Even the outro does nothing for me.

Elderly Woman is a titanic studio track, and while it's not a live favorite "I just want to scream hello" is never anything short of a magical moment.

Oh man, I love Let it Ride but im not sure i can vote over one of, if not, the greatest moments in PJ's catalogue "I just wanna scream..."

Sure that is a part of the song but it's more a part of the concert experience (and one I don't particularly care for).

Even tho I hate hearing them do it live these days, I still love to hear Dave A era versions. Elderly Woman.

Unsurprisingly, Future Days has never made it past the first round. Its worst performance was a devastating 75 - 4 loss against Spin the Black Circle in 2014.

Let It Ride has yet to break through the second round.

Elderly Woman has 4 Top 32 placements (including last year).

Future Days is an easy #3 in this round for me; it still may hold the title as my least favorite track on an official PJ album. But this is a tough match for Let it Ride, going up against Small Town, a track whose emotional impact may have been dulled over time by its constant presence and transformation into a crowd singalong.

I think Small Town is the better song, and where it neck-and-neck I'd probably vote for it, but I'l go with Let it Ride to give it some credit; it would have won for me against many other competitors. It's reminiscent of Dance of the Clairvoyants, where an interesting, mysterious first half of the song turns out to be setting the table for one of the band's best song endings.

That final stanza from Ed remains moving to me. It's a good example of something he captures some of the time, which is the kind of effortless empathy. Ed captures the character's pain and resolve to be free of it without laying it on too thick; by letting you find your way towards your own empathy rather than beating you over the head with it, it becomes far more powerful.

Yeah, this is totally the kind of moment I'll pretend to be cynical about on RM, and then go full Jamily when it happens at a show. "Elderly Woman" is a great song, and kind of a lightning-in-a-bottle moment for PJ -- even more than "Alive," a song that has come to speak to the relationship between the band and its audience despite having been written completely apart from it. And easy to take for granted in the context of that evolved meaning.

The lyrics are really beautiful, too. Definitely gets my vote here.

It's not up against better songs, so yeah.

It deserved no votes. The absolute nadir of the catalog.

Yeah, I'm gonna throw it a vote. I love the song and it doesn't deserve a shut-out.

I wasn't even going to change my vote, but now I will.
