Retrograde vs. Arc vs. Last Kiss

Nice that Retrograde will pickup a W this round, because it deserves a little love. But it won't go any further.

Man, I feel like "Last Kiss" is one of the few covers canonical enough to really earn its spot in this thing -- and against these other two it's a no-brainer vote for me. Nice, relaxed performance, an easy, natural vocal from Ed, plus the cool unexpected moment it was for the band. This song is as much a part of PJ's story as it is the original artist's, and that's enough for me to put it on a level playing field -- vote for "Last Kiss" (with the caveat that I am due to give "Retrograde" another listen soon).

I'm also throwing Last Kiss a vote here. It's strange but true that you can't tell the whole Pearl Jam story without talking about it. I may be pretty tired of it now, but that wasn't always the case.

Retrograde had the worst result of all the Gigaton songs last year, crashing out to Superblood Wolfmoon in round one (26 - 12). Looks like it might redeem itself this year.

Arc and Last Kiss rarely bother the second round.

Arc was something I had always wanted from Eddie, and even knowing its origins the results feel curiously lifeless. Granted it has musical accompaniment, but The Wolf (and even Rather be Home) both did this better.


Retrograde, at its worst, is still a perfectly pleasant listen, with a glorious outro that could have capped gigaton (though River Cross is both better and offers a radically different place to stop in terms of the message)


Last Kiss is not a song I ever seek out. But that fucker made me cry when it came out, and it's Pearl Jam's biggest hit, and a great performance that they completely made their own. It gets my vote, but if Retrograde beats it I'm okay with that

Surprisingly, Retrograde.

I still think it's one of the strongest songs on the last album.

Last Kiss. Love eds vocals on that. I dont really care much for retrograde though seeing it live helped my appreciation for it.

Gotta give some love to Arc though. Seeing that live on the 03 tour and ed solo show.....

That many ed voices reverberating around me was nothing short of sexual.

Last Kiss is the better song.
