All 3* tracks but Green Disease is a bit of a detour sonically.

Going with Green Disease.
But I'll be happy with whichever wins.

Re: 58. MFC vs. Pendulum vs. Green Disease
I love how MFC sounds like a car revving up, and i've always really loved the verses. The second verse in particular - "she said that timing was everything/made him want to be everywhere/there's a lot to be said for nowhere'. But it's a flat chorus that deflates the song for me. MFC is good, but it's not great.
Green Disease is catchy and I enjoy parts of it, but the G-R-E-E-N part is dumb. Like LBC, it's a pretty decent song that just has these intros that start the song by generating ill will towards them with how over the top they are, without feeling cut by an kind of irony. It's like the worst instincts of Soon Forget carried into a full song.
Pendulum is my favorite of the three. I wish it reached a little more into the pendulumorphosis dark trance feel, but i still really like the music - ominous and foreboding in a cinematic/late night existential horror way they hadn't really minded too deeply before (Binaural has some similar moments, but not quite like this). Hypnotic song, underrated opener. It's also one of those Lightning Bolts I forget how much I enjoy until I put it on.

Re: 58. MFC vs. Pendulum vs. Green Disease
would love to see MFC go far this year. it's got a feel and a texture unlike any other PJ song. BOB's production is spot on at weaving the different guitar lines in and out and Jack's drums add just the right color.

Pendulum, though MFC might be the better song.

Re: 58. MFC vs. Pendulum vs. Green Disease
"Pendulum" is another one of those missed potential songs. The band really tries to inhabit the kind of moody and atmospheric space that they do successfully navigated in the past, and to be fair, they get close. Unfortunately, the underlying drive of the song feels contrived, and the whole thing falls short because, once again, they're simply going through the motions.
"Green Disease" is a kind of Vedder on autopilot song. It's lightweight, fast-paced, and it picks a zone and mostly sticks to it with no frills. There's nothing bad about the song, but nothing all that great, either, and this kind of thing has been done better.
"MFC" is one such example. Everything is forward motion, and the band evokes the sounds of motors running and car horns honking and traffic noise. Compared to other songs on the album, it feels fairly tossed-off, but I've always had a fondness for it, and it wins the match in my heart.

MFC is so great.
And since everyone here likes to value live versions, I'll say that it bums me the fuck out that Ed never says the "spilled like wine" line in concert. It's my favorite line in the album track.

Same -- I am surprised "Pendulum" is doing such a number on it. I'd guess, if it was a two-way match, it would probably absorb a good few of the "MFC" votes; it certainly would mine. But "MFC" is great -- a song I never really think about, but am always delighted by when reminded of it.Leatherhead wrote:I love Green Disease. It's a highlight of Riot Act for me.

It seems to have a sense of urgency and forward momentum that never stops. It keeps barreling forward, while also sounding effortless.Kevin Davis wrote:Same -- I am surprised "Pendulum" is doing such a number on it. Usually something like "now she's out on, out on her own and line high" --- basically just skipping the wine bit and going to repeating the part that normally comes after.tragabigzanda wrote:What does he say instead?epilogue wrote:MFC is so great.
