is it? It may be a good song, and you may be prefer it but no one is charting a video of the band's history to Fatal. For me a classic needs to be either foundational to the artist's identity or an essential part of a collective experience. Fatal is neither of these things. It's a deep cut track off an album that produced a bunch of compelling b-sides.

For a movie or a song to be a classic, it must be at least 20 years old. DOTC is great, but not yet a classic. Of course, it has not yet been 19 years since Lost Dogs was released, but Fatal was made for Binaural, so its age is up for debate.
«A classic is an outstanding example of a particular style; something of lasting worth or with a timeless quality; of the first or highest quality, class, or rank – something that exemplifies its class. The word can be an adjective (a classic car) or a noun (a classic of English literature).»
«Etymology. The word classics is derived from the Latin adjective classicus, meaning "belonging to the highest class of citizens." The word was originally used to describe the members of the Patricians, the highest class in ancient Rome.»
Fatal does have a timeless quality, and is of the highest class, a top two song on Lost Dogs, easily five stars.

if a classic falls in the forest, and no one hears it, does it make a song?
I mean I'll allow for Fatal to be a classic if I can call Lightning Bolt and Mind Your Manners classics in 10 years. I'd call both of those 5 star songs, and clearly the two best songs on Lightning Bolt.
I feel like there needs to be more than the subjective enjoyment or appreciation of a song to call it a classic - some way to document its impact and significance. that's the difference between a classic and a good song.
I do like the 20 year criteria. DOTC is still too new to be a classic.

Fatal is the better song and I hope it wins. But stip is right regarding classic status.
