mouse lag on big screen

OK. I have a laptop. I have a USB mouse/keyboard. I plug the USB thingy into the laptop and I can use the mouse. I use an HDMI cable to display my laptop on a television. I used to have a smaller television and the mouse worked perfectly, just as it would on the laptop screen. Now, I have a bigger screen and the mouse is laggy. It takes a moment to respond, I can see it like stalling or jumping or skipping as I move the mouse. It's tough to be precise and I can no longer use my mouse as quickly as I used to. Is there some setting I can change to fix this? Should I wake them up and confront them? I don't see why nine more square inches of screen should have such a terrible effect. Please help.

i've had video input lag when using my raspberry pi on a big tv, so this seems like a problem with larger screens

I actually saw improvement when changing the screen resolution in the display settings. Asher, try that.

how many p's is the tv? That could be your issue.
