This is my favorite PJ song vs. my second or third. Have to go with the former, Insignificance.

This is an easy vote for Last Exit, which remains a top 5 song, their best opener, and a perfect 3 minute song that takes you on such a complete and compelling journey. “Let my spirit pas…”

But Insignificance is one of Eddie’s best written songs (musically and lyrically), and maybe the best example in the entire catalog of Pearl Jam adding atmosphere and texture in the studio version that they’ve NEVER come close to reproducing live. Insignificance is an excellent studio track. It’s always been mediocre live. “I was alone and far away when I heard the band start playing" is one of my all time favorite Pearl Jam lyrics"

But in the end, as great a piece of craft as Insignificance is, I'd rather listen to 1994 era Pearl Jam just absolutely murder a song with an intensity that cannot be contained than a 2000 era Pearl Jam give a committed but somewhat alienated performance. I have to be in the right mood for Insignificance. It's always time for Last Exit.

It’s no slight to Insignificance, which totally rules. But it’s Last Exit for me and it’s not even close. That right there is a top ten song.

I can't believe Last Exit is so far behind on this one right now.

Last Exit is fucking great, but Insignificance has so much more going on throughout, and it's all just as good as anything in Last Exit, maybe even better. Last Exit is a burst of greatness, Insignificance is a a whole chapter of greatness.

I was doing some writing yesterday. When Insignificance came in I had to stop working and just... listen to it.

Amazing song.
