Hail Hail vs. Do The Evolution

This is an easy vote for DTE. Hail Hail is a really insightful set of lyrics and a satisfying garage/grunge rock performance, but despite its rawness it's always hit me in the head more than the heart. And Eddie sounds like he's holding his noise his whole performance.

DTE is a singular moment. And that video. And that MSG performance when the floor was shaking. Too many memories. DTE is a song I've definitely been taking for granted, and feels more prescient than ever

Hail hail no question.

It’s funny that stip perceived hail hail as hitting him in the head, with DTE hitting him in the heart. It’s the exact opposite for me. That Hail Hail chord progression is a juggernaut and a jigsaw puzzle all in one, and Ed does a miraculous job of making it feel breezy.

As much as I enjoy DTE, I’ve always felt — since the first time I heard it — that it was a very brainy song. You can kind of hear them working to turn it into a rave up, and significant parts of it — the distorted vocal, the hallelujah, even the Macfarlane imagery — all coalesce towards something that was articulated to be the perfect combination of edgy and commercially viable.

I think DTE is a fairly cerebral song as well. But there is a primal intensity to it that is always what I'm looking for. Breezy is a good adjective for Hail Haiil, and I think that's one of the things that keeps it parked firmly in the lower 4 star range for me. It has always felt like it lacked the all encompassing fullness of so many of the great rockers before it.

I think that, antithetical to most of their music, the fullness is in the guitars, and Ed is the sugar that makes it go down easy

Man, both are absolute classic stone gossard guitar pieces. DTE just dances around the fret board with these riffs totally bouncing off each other.

There are few things i love more than PJ cutting into DTE (especially anything pre 2006). Honestly earth shaking.

Hail Hail is.....well i can't say enough about it. Ed is very subtle on this one and the lyrics are absolutely top notch.
