I think my favorite sounding drum track of all time is on Brenda Lee's original version of "Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree." There's barely anything to the performance -- it just feels so warm and crisp.

Oh man, I feel the total opposite -- I like the BITUSA album but that snare hit is maddening to me, it's like someone repeatedly snapping a belt in your ear. Not a fan.
Though I guess maybe that has to do with the monotony of the part and its prominence in the mix more than the actual capture of the sound.

Soundgarden - Superunknown has some incredible snare and drum sounds. It's my favourite drum/drumming album.

Funny the different PJ picks - I would actually go with Jack's kit on Yield. Brain of J and Faithfull in particular.

I like the sound on a lot of the new wave-ish albums from the late 70s - This Year’s Model, Marquee Moon, the first Cars album, Dam the Torpedos, etc
