Liars
Swans

I always get these bands mixed up. I have no idea how their sounds might differ. I only know that Michael Gira is the guy from Swans and he's a creep.
i love the mighty swans, but it took me a few attempts to dig em. their later releases are much more baroque than anything the fall have ever done; their early stuff is sonically brutal but not as caustic as the fall.

importantly mark e smith is much funnier and much stronger writer and much nastier man than m. gira. music to love, men to mostly avoid

i should get back to liars

Were these guys an influence of Pavement early on? I always get big Slanted & Enchanted vibes when I hear Slang King.

Malkmus loves The Fall.

i can't remember which song off S&E Malkmus said was a Fall ripoff, but the influence is there.

YES.

that's the one i had in my head, but for some odd reason, i gravitated toward Conduit for Sale!

but, yes...totally Fame Throwa.

I don't know The Fall all that well, but I do like what I've heard.

That's where I'm at with the fall too. I don't think it was that long ago that they joined streaming, because I remember for years hearing slang king and looking for more on Spotify and not finding much.

Unfortunately gone are the days when I could throw a rock and hit three different record stores in my neighborhood.

Now I see more availability on streaming services so I guess I'm due for a guided malloy tour

Seems to be the definitive characteristic of this group. That, and jagged pulsation.
