St Louis (I wish we had a travel subforum)

Post by Jorge »

I'm going to St Louis in October for a wedding. We're there for 5 days and staying in the Central West End area.

What is there to do in St Louis please

There is an eagle in me and a mockingbird . . . and the eagle flies among the Rocky Mountains of my dreams and fights among the Sierra crags of what I want . . . and the mockingbird warbles in the early forenoon before the dew is gone, warbles in the underbrush of my Chattanoogas of hope, gushes over the blue Ozark foothills of my wishes—And I got the eagle and the mockingbird from the wilderness.

O, I got a zoo, I got a menagerie, inside my ribs, under my bony head, under my red-valve heart—and I got something else: it is a man-child heart, a woman-child heart: it is a father and mother and lover: it came from God-Knows-Where: it is going to God-Knows-Where—For I am the keeper of the zoo: I say yes and no: I sing and kill and work: I am a pal of the world: I came from the wilderness.

The Budweiser factory tour was a good time.

City Museum. It might be best for kids but it's an interesting place to look at.

I live an hour south of there. I lived there for several years before and have visited many times throughout my life. Specify what you’d be interested in doing and we can figure something out.

There’s a fun little bar I would frequent pretty often for open mics or to see local acts called Venice Cafe near the Budweiser factory (which I hear gives good tours)

Also I would highly recommend the zoo. It’s world class. But I would try to go on a weekday cause it can be pretty crowded on weekends. I’m not much of a restaurant connoisseur so can’t help you much there. But I’m pretty sure central west end and The Loop and The Hill (genuine italian food) all have some good options. There’s Lebanese food at a place in the loop my wife loves. I think it’s just OK.

Oh there’s a place called Pi that has expensive gourmet pizza if you want that in central west end. People rave about the barbecue at a place near there too. I’ll look up what it’s called

Pappys smokehouse. It’s close to where you’re staying.

Go to a Cardinals game to witness American racism in all its glory.

Maybe go to a Cardinals game if they’re playing. They’re crazy about the cards in that town. There’s always scalpers selling tickets outside the stadium.

I'm putting together a list of places to eat/visit around the PJ show in September. I'll share it with you too!

Went to a Cardinals game and was challenged to a fight for wearing a Red Sox jersey. 10/10 would recommend.

Lots of stuff--including the art museum and the zoo--were free, which is nice.

Want to plug seeing the Arch. It's the cliche thing to do downtown, but it's worth it. They recently remodeled and redesigned the museum below it. A majestic monument and feat of engineering.
