“Legacy” movies/shows

Post by daft twat »

Seems like all 80s/90s properties are getting new movies or series with old ass cast members. I just read Tony Danza and Alyssa Milano are going to do a new Who’s the Boss series. Wtf?

In this thread, let’s rate/discuss non-Star Wars legacy projects. I’m super excited for the Willow series in November and intrigued by That 90s Show. Here are some that have already happened:

Bill and Ted Face the Music - This was fun. I don’t remember much of it, but I remember enjoying it.
Top Gun: Maverick - A+. I hope everyone sees this in the theater.
Ghostbusters: Afterlife - I was a little bored. It had some cool scenes, but it was wasn’t funny. The original Ghostbusters was hilarious.
The Mighty Ducks: Gamechangers - I never even saw the movie sequels so I didn’t see this.
Jurassic World: Dominion - It was dumb. The legacy gang was cool, but this is so far away from the original masterpiece.
Matrix: Resurrections - I still haven’t seen this. I don’t know why. Is it good?
Halloween movies - I am waiting for the finale to watch them all.
Saved by the Bell - This was brilliant - better than the original. Peacock sucks for canceling it.
Mad About You - Didn’t see it.
Will and Grace - Didn’t see it.
Fuller House - Didn’t see it.
Dark Crystal - More of a Labyrinth guy.
Creed - These have been great. I read a part 3 is coming this year with no Stallone. I’m skeptical.
Beavis and Butthead Do the Universe - Exactly what you’d expect. I enjoyed all 90 minutes.
Chip and Dale: Rescue Rangers - This was fantastic. Clever, funny, and nostalgic.

I’m sure I’m missing a bunch.

I’ll do it. Pm me, cunt.

I forgot Cobra Kai. I loved the first 3 seasons. Season 4 was okay. I think this one is going to outstay its welcome.

Every minute of it. Enjoyable. Nowhere close to the original.

I watched Chip and Dale with my neice and nephew and was surprised at how much I enjoyed it.

Top Gun Maverick is on the top of the heap, in my opinion. The Jurassic world movies are probably the worst of the reboots. I haven't seen the newest one and I hope I never do.

The Sex and the City thread was just bumped. “And Just Like That” was depressing. We didn’t even finish the season. I think tone shifts are make or break. Cobra Kai leans more into humor than the Karate Kid films, and it works. SATC was fun and funny, and now it’s trying to make serious statements about growing older, and it’s not working, imo.

That Dark Crystal series on Netflix was criminally overlooked and it sucks that they're not making more of it.

I get this impulse, but I've gotta say: whatever had to happen to bring Top Gun: Maverick into the world, I am thankful for it and it's all worth it

Roseanne was a disappointment and The Connors have a talented cast but it’s not good.
I watched the Murphy Brown update, okay but nothing special and quickly forgotten.
X Files was a mixed bag but the good ones were fantastic.

Yeah, there were two or three that were all timers. The rest of it was such a waste.

The Wire Season 6 was pretty good, but didn't feel quite worth the time by the end

Masterful.

A huge part of my enjoyment of that particular series was anticipation and letting the previous episodes ferment in my head for a week. I am planning a full Twin Peaks revisit soon.

A good friend of mine decided to do a full series watch (he's never seen any of it before) about six months ago. He finished S1 and S2 in time to go see FWWM in theaters on Twin Peaks day. He hasn't started The Return yet. I just can't wait for him to see it.

Suggest he takes his time with it.

The Return aired on Sundays... I think I can make an episode a week work with my sched, July 3rd penciled in.

I think you can make an argument that this doesn't fit in with the current trend of reboots, since most of the other series/movies listed above were "dead" properties that were brought back to life, often on a wave of nostalgia, whereas Twin Peaks Season 2 promised a return in 25 years. It was planned all along.
